Salford Museum & Art Gallery are proud to announce the launch of our Zero-Waste Shop.

Supported by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund “Steps to Sustainability” programme, the shop has been set up with the support and guidance of Salford’s first zero-waste shop, The Dispensary, based in Walkden Shopping Centre who have selected and sourced the products on behalf of the Museum.

The Zero-Waste Shop features well known ethical brands such as Alter/Native, Upcircle and Miniml Toiletries & Cosmetics, as well as, easy zero waste accessory swaps, such as linen bags, bamboo cloths and reusable containers. There is also a dedicated range of eco reading materials to help support people wanting to make wider changes in their life to be more sustainable.

The most exciting feature of the new pop up is a dedicated Refill station, where people can bring empty bottles and containers and refill with ethical toiletries and cleaning products.

“We hope this initiative will encourage our visitors to think more sustainably about how they shop and enable them to make easy changes to their consumer habits to be more eco-friendly. By basing ourselves in the centre of the University of Salford Campus, we hope this initiative will allow both students and staff to have easy access to the very best ethical products on the UK market. The Dispensary, are the leading organisation in Salford and we are honoured to be working alongside them on this progressive project.”

Profits made from the shop will go directly back into the purchase of more ethically soured products for the museum shop, with the plan to widen the product offering once appetite increases for the service.

The shop is open weekdays from 9.30am-4.00pm and weekends 11:30am-4.00pm (except for Bank Holidays).

The Dispensary, Walkden Shopping Centre, is open Tues 10-6, Wed-Sat 10-4 and Sun 12-4 with a wider range of dried food goods, gifts and fresh fruit and veg available.
They also operate a Veg Box and app based click and collect service.
