Our website has the accessibility software Recite Me embedded, which has a toolbar with a range of options to aid access. This includes a screen reader, options to change the colour and font size and many other features.

Parking:

  • We have three accessible parking spaces for blue badge holders adjacent to the museum entrance (max stay for these spaces is up to 3 hours) 
Access around the building and facilities
  • Ramp into the building for wheelchair and pram access, as it is a little steep, please call reception on 0161 778 0800 if you need assistance
  • A lift is available which provides step free access to all floors, the lift entrance is 90 cm wide, the depth of the lift is 138 cm
  • Adequate seating is located throughout

D/deaf and hard of hearing 

Blind and visual impairments:

  • Large print map at reception
  • Tactile statues
  • Lark Hill Place is dimly lit to protect the collections, but you are welcome to borrow a lantern
  • An audio described digital tour 

Assistance dogs:

We welcome individuals with an assistance dog and can provide water should your dog get thirsty

Toilets:

  • We have 1 accessible toilet, which also has baby changing facilities (you can use your own Radar Key or borrow one from reception)
Neurodiversity

Sensory:

  • We have child and adult sized ear defenders which you can borrow upon arrival
  • Lark Hill Place has an audio soundscape and some of our temporary exhibitions may have a sound element
  • Borrow a sensory bag from Reception to help your child feel more comfortable in our spaces.

Quieter times:

In term time we have school bookings, so it is usually quieter on a weekday after 2pm, however do please contact the museum in advance of your visit on 0161 778 0800 or email salford.museum@scll.co.uk, so that you can be advised when a quieter time to visit will be.

Choosing boards:

We have some non-verbal choosing boards which you can borrow on arrival.
