Next year Salford will be celebrating 100 years since becoming a city.

To mark the occasion Salford Museum & Art Gallery is inviting 100 groups and individuals from across Salford to be involved in an exhibition opening in 2026.

The exhibition will showcase 100 objects and artworks from the museum’s collection, selected by the people of Salford. We hope to present an eclectic mix from all areas of the museum’s collection, including art, decorative arts and social history, showcasing the participant’s selections alongside their own responses and stories.

We are working with several community groups based in Salford who will each be selecting an object as a group, and we will be inviting other groups and individuals we have worked with, or who have supported us over the years to choose an item.

We are also inviting around 50 members of the public to make their selection. To be eligible to take part you must live in Salford and be available to attend two sessions at the museum in August 2025.

If you would like to be involved, please apply here. The deadline for applications is Sunday 13th July.

‘This is a great opportunity to learn what the people of Salford love about the collection and why. We are excited to see what gets chosen. This is also an opportunity to enter discussions more widely about what they think of Salford, the museum, and its role within the community both in the past and present, and how this might look in the future.’

Claire Corrin, Exhibitions Manager

The exhibition will open on Saturday 7 February 2026 as part of a programme of exhibitions and events throughout the year at Salford Museum & Art Gallery and Ordsall Hall celebrating Salford and its people, artists and museum collection.
