The changing city of Salford is the subject of a new art exhibition this summer created by local artists.

Transformations, by the Reveal Printmakers who are based at Salford’s Hot Bed Press, is all about transforming ideas into prints of a city of rapid change.

The original, fresh and exciting prints have been produced using a range of techniques including screen-printing, etching, monoprint, lino-cut, drypoint, collograph and lithography.

The exhibition presents the different interpretations of Salford’s rapidly changing urban environment and life through the eyes of ten unique artists with styles varying from abstract to figurative, landscape to close up. Transformations also explains the intriguing process by which a print develops, from initial idea to finished work, by showing the sequential stages in the print’s making alongside tools and original drawings.

Reveal is a collective of ten contemporary artists who studied together and graduated from a three-year Complete Printmaker’s Course run by Salford’s prestigious Hot Bed Press Workshop in 2016. The group formed to create work that draws inspiration from a broad choice of subject matter, in a variety of different technique, illustrating how the artists’ different styles overlap in a way that retains interest and enjoyment for
the viewer.

Reveal member and Salford Open 2018 winner, Kate Downes, said:

“We are delighted to bring our latest exhibition to Salford Museum and Art Gallery. It is the ideal venue to host this exhibition as it showcases local history, and it’s literally just around the corner from Hot Bed Press. The Transformation prints showcase the regeneration of Salford over the last 25 years, highlighting the rich cultural and social history of the area as well as celebrating the expanding urban landscape and rural gems.”

The Reveal Printmakers are Paulette Bansal, Lesley Johnson, Kate Downes, Helen Lacey, Jayne Pellington, Dawn Prescott, Alison Sandford, Alison Scott, Bridget Schilizzi, and Yvonne Walters.

There is an exhibition launch on 15 May, 5.00-7.30pm at which you can meet the artists.

There are a number of meet the artist sessions running on 30 May, 30 June, 17 July, 28 July and 29 August. These events are held at 11:30am-3pm, in the North Gallery and are free (free, no need to book).

Transformations runs from Saturday 11 May to Tuesday 10 September 2019 in the north Gallery, Salford museum and Art Gallery, The Crescent, Salford M5 4WU.
