Petronio Costa
Hand made with black velvet and around 15,000 different coloured sequins
2004
This costume is an important part of the Maracatu-Rural and traditionally empowers whoever wears it and protects all the performers. My passion is sewing and embroidery. I use different coloured sequins to creatively explore my roots and culture. The way people come together to celebrate art in the rural area where I am from inspired me to create this work based on my childhood memories from the countryside area I grew up, which is Engenho Falcão.
