Create your own fabric banner inspired by our Salford Voices exhibition!

Through hands-on activities and open conversation, artists Chris Alton and Emily Simpson have been working with residents at Broughton Community Centre to design a series of banners marking the centenary of Salford’s city status.

These banners, now on display in our café space, will serve as inspiration for this workshop – led by Chris and Emily themselves!

Using various sewing techniques (applique, machine sewing, hand sewing and embroidery), participants will be shown how to design their own banner using images, symbols, as well as words. Prompts and templates will be provided – or you can create a composition from scratch.

Taking direct inspiration from their community work, Chris and Emily will be asking attendees to consider themes of local pride and identity in their approach.

The session is suitable for all sewing abilities, no previous experience is needed!

All materials provided. For ages 18+, £30 per person.

The museum has a private Pay & Display car park. All parking is paid for on arrival either online, over the phone or by using the onsite machine.
