What can artworks tell us about the relationship between people and animals?
Can images of animals help us to explore histories of industry, empire and environmental change?
Join art historian Dr Kate Nichols from the University of Birmingham for this exclusive tour, as she examines how Salford’s collection of 18th and 19th century animal paintings might help us understand our changing place in the natural world. Kate is currently writing a book about the Victorian animal painter Briton Riviere, so we will start at his painting The Welcome before looking at other works on display in the Langworthy and Victorian galleries.
Included with the ticket is a complimentary tea, coffee or glass of wine upon arrival at 5.30pm. The talk itself will then begin at 6pm.
£5 per person, booking required. Book early to avoid disappointment.
