Salford Local History Library is home to over 70,000 photographs of the city, as well as newspaper archives, maps, electoral registers, trade directories, pamphlets and a wealth of local history material.

Local History Learning Packs

The rich resources housed in Salford Local History Library have now been pulled together into Local History Learning Packs, containing maps from the nineteenth century to recent decades, as well as aerial photographs and social history images to support teachers with classroom learning.

There are 4 packs available which are focused on the following areas of Salford:

  • Salford Museum & Art Gallery
  • Ordsall Hall
  • Salford Precinct
  • Cross Lane

These packs are available to purchase via our online shop.

Bespoke local history learning packs can also be created for any area of Salford, and may focus on your school, a church or a town centre. Please contact us at local.history@scll.co.uk for more information about this service.

Digital Salford Online Resources

Digital versions of thousands of photographs of Salford since the Victorian period are now available online to support Local History Learning in the classroom. These images can be searched by date or location, or browsed as themed collections. Photographs are constantly being added to this rich online resource. Search for photographs.
