Salford Museum and Art Gallery is at the forefront of museum-based reminiscence work with older people and the care sector.
Memories Matter is the largest regional reminiscence resource loan service, and offers real museum collection objects and photographs for loan to organisations working with older people. These often include day centres, care homes, nursing homes, sheltered housing schemes, charities and independent and community groups. We aim to help these organisations provide stimulating and enjoyable reminiscence sessions for their residents and clients.
Reminiscence tours of our Victorian street, Lark Hill Place at Salford Museum and Art Gallery can be booked by groups, societies, organisations, day centres, care homes etc. Each tour can accommodate up to 15 people, and lasts around 45 minutes. They take in a number of the shops and homes in Lark Hill Place, giving fascinating information about the owners and items in the shops, and encourage participants to share their own memories.
Tours must be booked in advance, are subject to staff availability, and usually take place during the working week.
