We are asking visitors to our library to book ahead of their visit so we can make sure their time in the library is safe and stress free, while maintaining social distancing.
As time will be limited, we recommend planning out your visit beforehand to ensure you are getting the most out of the resources we have available.
Some items will currently not be available for visitors to view at this time, including: Photographs, paper maps and our information indexes. Any items handled by visitors will be quarantined for 72 hours.
However, visitors can still use our books, directories, electoral registers, digital maps, computer resources and microfilmed records (including newspapers and parish registers).
Appointments are limited due to social distancing so please do let us know if you can no longer make it to your booking. Updated government guidelines have requested face coverings are worn when visiting museums and libraries (unless exempt).
Visits are free, however, we welcome donations. Your support helps the museum to deliver a range of educational activities and to produce a changing exhibitions programme.
Visits to the Local History Library are available Thursdays and Fridays between 11.30am and 4.00pm.
