As a fellow Salford artist, I would sit with Harold Riley in his studio at the old fire station, as well as visit him sat in his shop fronted exhibition space in Salford Quays. We would talk at length about sketching people and how he said he would sit in his car sketching like this.
I completed Harold’s portrait in 2021 oil on canvas.
He attended and opened my solo exhibition at Salford Art Gallery back in 2012. He spoke about his history with the gallery space and how he felt how much he liked my paintings and how no one else was really doing this type of work that he felt was important.
He was a very kind, interesting man, a pleasure to sit down with and he purchased a painting of mine as well as opening doors to other reputable buyers whom I am sure were more aware of my art thanks to Harold’s endorsement.
