Harold drew this of my mother, Suzanne Rushton (nèe Hardy). She lived in Eccles when she first arrived from the South of France and she and her sister, my Aunt Monique, became friends with Harold. I think he sketched this portrait of my mum around 1954.
They maintained their friendship for a little while and I believe he went out my Aunt Monique until she returned to France. The three of them met up again in 1975 when they enjoyed a meal at The Belvedere Restaurant in Read, Lancashire.
I had this sketch/portrait framed after my mum’s death and am reluctant to take it apart as it’s so well mounted. There are definitely a few random doodles on the back of this portrait which are really interesting.
