Paula Chambers’ work Prophet (Cassandra), references both the look and feel of Frink’s Harbinger Bird. The blackness of the materials, the sharp steel point of nose/beak and the stiff and awkwardly folded rubber mats juxtaposed with the frivolity of fringing and tulle net, all contribute to a feeling of feminine constraint, of a barely suppressed female rage. Cassandra was a Trojan priestess who was gifted the ability to foresee the future by the God Apollo. When she subsequently rejected his sexual advances, Cassandra was fated to utter true prophecies but never to be believed.
